Novice Obedience
Class Description:
THIS IS NOT AN INTRODUCTORY CLASS. In order to be successful in the Novice class, your dog should be proficient in loose leash walking near your left side MOST OF THE TIME. The Novice course builds upon the basic skills learned in CGC Prep or Family Dog 1 and introduces more precision and better handling skills. New elements such as: finishes, stand for exam, figure eights and mild distractions are introduced. This class is for the pet owner that wants to learn more and have better control over their pet dog as well as those thinking about Obedience or Rally competition. Emphasis is on skills required to successfully compete in the Beginner Novice Obedience ring as well as those needed to pass the AKC Community Canine Good Citizen Test (CGC-A).
Pre-requisites:
CGC Prep, Family Dog 1 or equivalent; dogs must be comfortable working among other dogs and handlers. Dog should be able to calmly walk by your left side for at least 15 feet.
Proof of DAPP and Rabies are required to attend class. Bring proof of vaccinations to the 1st class for LCC, send with registration for ARF. We recommend all dogs have Bordetella vaccine (Kennel Cough).

Lafayette Community Center (LCC) -- 500 St. Mary's Rd, Lafayette.
Animal Rescue Foundation (ARF) - 2890 Mitchell Dr, Walnut Creek
Minimum/Maximum Number of Students:
The minimum and maximum number of students at each class is determined by the location and the class format. Classes will be cancelled if the minimum number of students is not met.
Registration:
LCC registration is through the City of Lafayette Recreation website. In order to register, you must first create an account.
ARF Registration is via MDDTC paper Registration Form which must be mailed to the address indicated on the form.
